Phoenix Park Picnic Cluster, Dublin, 2016

Design/manufacture collaboration with furniture designer Simon Doyle

Commission from the Office of Public Works

A new typology for picnic furniture, the Picnic Cluster is a playful arrangement of seating and tables in solid oak and powder-coated steel. It is a structure that makes subtle suggestions for human interactions, a framework for celebration and enjoyment within the natural setting of the park.

The idea was to create public space furniture that would encourage spontaneous interaction between picnickers and be accessible for people with reduced mobility. It was made using 200 year old untreated oak from the park itself.
